Session 4 - The Rules of Engagement

  • North Oakland, California (map)

Emotionally focused communication for: navigating through conflict and enhancing connection.

The Rules of Engagement - also known as The Container - is a framework for intimate communication developed over 15 years of study, facilitation, and professional practice.

This approach is designed to build skill and capacity for:
- Perspective-taking and relational problem-solving
- Deeper awareness and acceptance of your own experience and the experience of others
- Emotional literacy, relational empathy, and repair after rupture

Whether in personal or professional contexts, this framework offers a grounded, practice-based approach to navigating conflict, honoring complexity and paradox, and strengthening mutual understanding.

You’ll leave with:

• A communication model effective for both emotional and logistical problem-solving

• Support for authentic expression without blame or shame

• Practices for speaking and listening actively and with discernment

• Tools for de-escalating conflict and repairing after misunderstanding, hurt, or harm

• A deeper capacity to stay present and curious in high-stakes moments
