Emotional Literacy

  • North Oakland, California (map)

Developing Emotional Vocabulary: for mental health, relational problem-solving, and more satisfying connections.

Being emotionally literate means recognizing that emotion is part of the landscape of being human. We can’t choose whether or not we feel, or selectively choose to feel some emotions and not others. We can however, consciously engage with how we experience and express emotion, reducing reactivity and increasing agency and responsiveness.

In this session, we’ll explore how emotional literacy supports mental health, deepens self-trust, and enhances our capacity for intimacy.

You’ll leave with:

• A broader understanding of the intelligence of emotion and how it functions

• An expanded vocabulary for emotional states and experiences

• Practices for identifying what you feel, when you’re feeling it

• Tools for moving from emotional reactivity to emotional fluency
